No. The $1,000/person deposit is non-refundable. If we cancel the tour (for example, if fewer than 4 couples confirm), you receive a full refund of everything you have paid, including the deposit. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance with trip cancellation coverage to protect your payments.

All cancellations must be submitted in writing to dorian@autobahngrandtouring.com. Deposits are non-refundable. If the balance has already been paid, amounts beyond the deposit are refundable only if we are able to fill your spot.

We send a final tour confirmation to all registered participants 120 days before departure. At that point, you know the tour is a go. If we cancel for any reason before departure, all payments including deposits are refunded in full. We reserve the right to cancel if fewer than 4 couples have confirmed by the 120-day mark.

We strongly recommend it. Look for a policy that covers trip cancellation, emergency medical treatment, medical evacuation, and baggage loss. Proof of coverage is due 60 days before departure. We do not offer or administer any insurance products.

Yes, and you would be in good company — we have had quite a few solo travelers inquire about this tour. The price for a solo traveler is $6,000, which covers the full tour experience: all 7 hotel nights in your own room, daily breakfast, both dinners, the Porsche Museum visit, Neuschwanstein tickets, lead cars, radios, and full tour coordination. Everything included, the only difference is a private room. The 2026 tour is now sold out, but you can email dorian@autobahngrandtouring.com to join the waitlist or ask about future tours.

Germany recognizes a valid US driver's license for short-term visits, so technically you do not need one. However, we recommend getting an International Driving Permit (IDP) as a backup. It costs about $20 from AAA and takes five minutes. Some rental situations go smoother with one, and it is a good thing to have if you ever interact with local authorities.

That is entirely up to you. On unrestricted Autobahn sections, there is no speed limit. Some participants will cruise at 100 mph, others will push well beyond that. On backroads and mountain passes, speeds are lower and the focus is on the driving experience, not top speed. Every morning you choose your pace group. This is not a race, timed event, or track event.

Your rental contract is directly with CarVia, and their comprehensive insurance and roadside coverage is included in the rental price. If anything happens with the car, you contact CarVia directly and they handle it. Both lead cars also carry two-way radios and we will assist with coordination, but the rental company is responsible for the vehicle.

Fly into Frankfurt Airport (FRA). From there, take a taxi or Uber to the Frankfurt Gravenbruch. It is about a 15-minute ride. Your rental Porsche will already be waiting at the hotel when you arrive. On Day 8, you drive the Porsche back to Frankfurt Airport for your departure flight.

Early September in southern Germany is typically mild and pleasant. Daytime temperatures are usually 60-75F (15-24C), with cooler mornings in the mountains. Rain is possible, especially in the Black Forest, so pack a light jacket and layers. September is considered one of the best months to visit.

Casual. There is no formal dress code for any part of the tour, including the welcome and farewell dinners. Pack comfortable clothes for driving and walking. A smart casual outfit for dinners is fine but not required.

Keep in mind you will be driving a Porsche, not an SUV. That said, a 911 has a surprisingly practical front trunk and you can fit more than you think. If you want more space, the Panamera is an option, and you can always put bags on the back seats. We will send detailed packing tips in the pre-tour information package.

Yes. Most US carriers offer international roaming plans that work in Germany. Check with your carrier before you leave. Wi-Fi is available at all hotels. We also provide two-way radios for communication between cars during driving days, so you do not need your phone for that.

Yes. The tour is designed for couples, not just drivers. Lake Constance has a full free day for exploring the waterfront towns, optional Zeppelin flight, and boat trips. Neuschwanstein is one of the most visited castles in the world. The hotels are selected for their character, not just their proximity to good roads. The welcome and farewell dinners, the group size being small enough that everyone actually gets to know each other, and the variety of experiences beyond driving are a big part of what makes this trip work for both people in the car.

The hotels are a major part of it. The vast majority of the time, non-driving partners are with us during the tour, enjoying the stops and getting the best seat for sightseeing while driving amazing roads. We want non-driving partners to feel comfortable, and sometimes they decide to spend the day in the hotel or see the nearby little towns with other spouses they just met. With our small tour size you quickly make new friends, and we can stay in unique hotels that other tours often cannot.

We have been organizing Porsche driving tours in Germany and across Europe for over ten years, but always privately among our group of friends. After I moved to the States and joined Milwaukee PCA, I kept hearing from members who wanted to do exactly the kind of tour we had been doing for years. The Founders' Tour is the first time we are opening it up to fellow PCA members. Some of the larger operators charge $15,000+ per person for certain trips, often run groups of 20-40 people, and are sometimes organized from the US by people who fly in for the event. We charge $4,000/person, cap the group at 4-6 couples, and the tour is led by two German couples who grew up driving these roads and know the country from the inside. One of us lives in the US with the company based here, so you always have someone close by to answer questions, while still getting decades of local knowledge. You choose your own pace every morning. The hotels are hand-picked, not block-booked from a catalog. It is a fundamentally different experience.
